ENTERTAINMENT, NEWS: SHOULD WE TAKE KIM KARDASHIAN SERIOUSLY AS A SINGER?

Ideally, there are two things needed for a successful pop music career: vocal ability and hypnotic dance moves. Kim Kardashian, has neither, according to AOL’s BVx. But, could there still be a reason to love her as an artist? Yet she recently released a new single because this is America, and she's a cute, rich, curvy white woman who parlayed a sex tape into a million-dollar brand.

Like Heidi Montag's 'Body Language,' Danielle Staub's 'Real Close' and Kim Zolciak's 'Tardy for the Party,'Kardashian's debut single, 'Turn it Up' (produced by The-Dream), is audibly an infectious dance beat that covers up tone-deaf wailing wispy, digitally enhanced vocals (think Kardashian's BFF Ciara). However, unlike her reality-star-turned-pop-star peers, Kardashian's mastery of self-branding has already taken her "career" beyond the typically allotted 15 minutes.

In a lot of ways Kimmie is the new Paris Hilton, except she's considered a "wholesome sex bomb"(ironically), and she's never been caught with coke or herpes medication, which works in her favor. She leveraged a sex tape into a reality show and an empire that includes several clothing stores, her own fragrance, product endorsements and a co-authored a book (that was most likely ghost written by a real writer). She's even done some acting (in legit movies this time), so it's not surprising that she's attempting to franchise music. Everything she does is calculated.

The fact that she has nearly 6 million Twitter followers (and counting) is a testament to how many people actually believe her hype like her. And for those who, like me, don't get it we can agree that she's overexposed, privileged (which is whole other blog) and talentless, but on the flip side can we really be mad at someone who was smart enough to pimp the system? She went from the girl getting hit from the back by Ray J to Kim Kardashian, megastar making major bank because America loves big butts and Botox smiles. Why shouldn't she become a singer if people are going to be silly enough to... buy her music.

Maybe she'll teach a class in Jedi mind tricks next, but I digress. Whatever Kardashian's next move may be, the only certainty is that until America learns to value real artistry, we're stuck with delusional reality TV stars and socialites who fancy themselves as having a knack for something other than being annoying and a bad influence on impressionable minds.
